When to Embrace Meaningful Use?

Abstract

The $787 billion dollar “stimulus bill” of 2009 provides incentive payments to eligible providers (EPs) who demonstrate meaningful use (MU) of certified electronic health records. Approximately 90% of radiologists are considered eligible for up to $1.5 billion. And yet, fewer than 400 total ACR members successfully attested to participation in 2011 [1]. The MU program is being implemented initially in 3 stages, with the stage 2 rules to be finalized in late summer or early fall 2012. The MU program involves satisfying a complex set of objectives, each of which has an associated measure and reporting requirement.
