Abstract
Susan J. Sample is the writer-in-residence at Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Health Sciences Center, in Salt Lake City, where she works with patients, family members, nurses, physicians, and social workers writing about their experiences. Her poetry has appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, JAMA, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, among others. She is the author of Voices of Teenage Transplant Survivors: Miracle-Like (Emerald Publishing, 2021), and two chapbooks, Terrible Grace and Some Unsayable Blue (Finishing Line Press, 2011 and 2019). “When the Screen Retracts” © 2022 by Susan J.
