Abstract
This poem is inspired by Brian Sinclair, an Indigenous Canadian man who passed away in 2008 after waiting 34 hours to be seen in an emergency department in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His death was entirely preventable. He died due in part to groupthink, ignorance, and systemic racism. This poem explores the "othering" that many Indigenous individuals, such as Brian, experience in healthcare settings. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).
