Abstract

Introduction: Intraosseous cysts affecting the mandible and maxilla can be mainly classified into odontogenic or non- odontogenic depending on the origin of the epithelium lining of the cyst cavity. Histopathological examination is required to confirm the diagnosis according to the type of epithelium lining. Treatment is either by complete enucleation or marsupialization. Large odontogenic cysts may benefit from decompression as opposed to marsupialization to prevent complications such as pathological fracture and to facilitate definitive cyst enucleation.
