Abstract

Conferences on problem solving for mathematics teachers. Rhode Island College and the Rhode Island Mathematics Teachers Association (RIMTA) will sponsor a two-day conference for teachers, kindergarten through college, on 20-21 May 1983. The conference will cover problem solving in daily class work, in algebra, in special education classrooms, in computer and calculator classes, and in geometry. Problem-solving strategies and the development of appropriate algorithms will be stressed. Research and applications will also be considered. The program will include two major speakers, as well as small-group sessions. The latter will provide opportunities for classroom teachers to share information with college teachers. Preregistration is desirable. For additional information contact Barbara Gilfillan, Project Coordinator, Mathematics Department, Rhode Island College, Providence, RI 02908.
