Abstract

Introduction: The future of OMFS as a profession is evolving towards more gender equality with increasing numbers of women progressing to senior roles; however the latest figures confirm that only 15% of all Maxillofacial Consultants in the UK are female (NHS Digital, 2016). This is in stark contrast to the 59% of female DCTs joining the speciality at junior level. This study aims to investigate the underlying causes and address current perceptions of the specialty in terms of gender equality.
