This sociology textbook is based on Ruth Woodfield’s research on women and work. The first chapter sets the scene, but I was put off by its use of unfamiliar words. Subsequent chapters are based on case studies of firefighting and teaching. The book concludes with ambition, success and choice, looking finally at the sociology of occupational choice.
