Abstract

Through the analysis of several cultural metaphors, this article reflects on the fractures, both social and personal, brought about by politics and violence in the Basque Country. The author suggests that – regardless of the optimistic public transcript concerning the new ‘democratic scenario’ opening after the end of Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) in 2018 – a thick ideological fog has still not burned off. In a landscape that has been profoundly impacted by violence, only the shadows and silhouettes goaded by the fog have been transformed.
