Abstract

Rationale: To improve management of hydration deficit among elderly, we need to know what we are looking for and how to assess it. Dehydration is a poorly defined term where there are different possible combinations of sodium and water concentration in the cell or in the extracellular matrix. There is no easy, quick and exact test that can define all factors relevant for hydration status. However, opposed to Single Frequency Bio-impedance (SFBIA), Multi Frequency Bio-impedance (MFBIA) can define changes in intra / extracellular properties that are important for defining hydration shifts among elderly.
