A story posted on Reuters Health (www.reutershealth.com) in Dec 2000 reveals the bad and the somewhat good news about patients' seemingly insatiable appetite for online cancer news and information. The bad news is the story itself — coverage of a case report about a cancer patient who died of kidney and liver failure after selftreating with hydrazine sulfate, a drug touted on an ‘alternative medicine’ website as a treatment for wasting.
