Abstract
Behcet's disease is prevalent in Japan and the Middle East. It is a chronic, relapsing, multisystem disease, characterized by oral and genital ulcerations, iritis, arthralgias, and inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, or bowels. Skin involvement is considered a major criterion for diagnosis. A recent clinico-pathological study from Japan investigated the prevalence of vasculitis in Behcet's disease, and an open clinical study from Turkey evaluated cyclosporine as a treatment for the cutaneous manifestations of the disease.
