Abstract

The cleanliness of our waters and air remains a prime concern of our citizenry, industry, and government. The U. S. Coast Guard has the responsibility to assure adequate standards are set for various types of vessels to prevent or minimize the discharge of pollutants into our waters. Standards dealing with tankship and tank barge design, tank slops, oily bilge wastes, spill containment, and vessel sewage are discussed in this paper. Information concerning proposed vessel operational requirements and vapor recovery is also presented.
