Abstract
Peer teaching was the special feature of two-week workshops held at three sites in Oregon this past summer. The “hands-on” workshops were part of a new program enabling Oregon teachers who are leaders in mathematics education to conduct graduate-credit mathematics workshops for other teachers under the auspices of The Math Learning Center in Salem. The workshops presented many useful classroom ideas and materials covering a variety of mathematical topics, with emphasis on problem-solving and laboratory approaches. Peer teaching was used to create a friendly, unpressured atmosphere in which “mathephobes” could discover the fun of mathematics. More workshops are planned for next summer. Additional information can be obtained from David Raskin, The Math Learning Center, 325 13th Street, N.E., Room 302, Salem OR 97301.
