Abstract

The NSW Department of Education requires leaders to have the capacity to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. A model for schools is presented, to identify strongly with the relevance of the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW (BOSTES) focus areas 1.4 and 2.4 of the Australian teachers teaching standards, particularly for lead teachers. I work in collaboration with executive for the implementation of the Performance and Development of Teachers in NSW Public Schools, including Teaching Standards 1.4.4 and 2.4.4. : - Supporting teachers through effective teacher education programs and professional learning incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives The strategic reconciliation action plan will have a dynamic impact on whole school practice and structural change that facilitates the transfer of the positive impact on individual participants to other members of staff in participating schools and possibly help ensure the long term sustainability of program outcomes. - Fulfilment of the need for the curriculum to overtly address the issue of racism in contemporary society. - Highlighting the fact that Aboriginal content should include positive understandings and information about Aboriginal people today. - Providing changes to curriculum to balance the focus on traditional content with more broad based, contemporary perspectives or alternative approaches to pedagogy.
