Abstract

This article is about the mediation effect of emotional intelligence between students’ self-efficacy and academic achievement. The research respondents were 723 first year engineering college students from Tamilnadu, India. The current study is quantitative in nature, and the well-structured questionnaire was used. Emotional intelligence questionnaire, academic confidence scale and students’ first semester examination results (Cumulative Grade Point Average) were used to collect the research data. All research instruments are valid and reliable. Descriptive statistics, correlation, one-way ANOVA and structural equation modelling techniques are used to find the answers to the research question. It ought to be noted, notwithstanding, that the link between academic self efficacy and academic achievement for the situation is not direct, as the linkage between academic achievement and academic self efficacy was observed and it is mediated by emotional intelligence. This study concludes that academic achievement can be improved by increasing self efficacy in students. Many self efficacy programs can be conducted to improve student’s academic achievement.
