Abstract

This paper presents linguistic criteria for the evaluation of conversational narratives. These criteria are derived from a theory of narrative texts which is based on a descriptive mapping of the process of planning and producing a non-fictious story in conversation. The theory includes not only aspects of discourse structure, but also situational and functional variables. The empirical basis of the study is a large tape-recorded corpus of everyday stories in natural conversation (in German).
