Abstract

The fungi Cenococcum graniforme ( geophilum) produces mycorrhizae associations known as sclerotia. These millimeter size, black ball-like structures which often appeal in archaeobotanical flotation samples have gone unremarked in the archaeological literature, but may provide another indicator for environmental reconstruction.
