Abstract

BACKGROUND: Over 4 million Americans are admitted to or reside in a long-term care facility (LTCF) each year. It is estimated that 380,000 people die of infections in LTCFs every year which demonstrates the need to improve infection control infrastructure in these facilities. The state health department (SHD) sought to identify gaps in infection prevention practices in LTCFs and guide quality improvement activities by conducting infection control assessments.
