Abstract

At the study site, the research problem was that grade three students struggled to pass state testing in reading. The local school district implemented a training program for reading elementary teachers to help students pass state testing. I employed the nonequivalent quasi-experimental research design and involved two cohorts of grade three students. I collected archived data from the school district in reading. The findings of this study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the mean scores of reading for the two cohorts of grade three students. The findings of this study indicated that the test scores in reading improved after the implementation of the training program suggesting that the program was successful in assisting the students to pass state testing.
