Abstract

it. Moreover, it has been shown in studies of both healthy and sick animals (5) that all the serum components fluctuate considerably, and meaningful for the animal cannot be established. The continuing appearance of publications that imply that values are some sort of constants, establishing the normal condition, indicate a lack of understanding concerning normal biological variability and the concept of homeostasis as defined by Cannon (6) and inferred earlier by Bernard (7). In the present study, data are presented from paper electrophoretic analyses of 104 samples of serum from presumably normal donors to the Red Cross Blood Bank of Lawrence, Kansas. The data are compared with those published by others, and comments are made concerning and average human sera.
