In 1970, while retaining and further strengthening the subspecialty groups, we developed a 66-bed General Medical Service. In the following year a large (14 000 visits yearly) General Medical Out-Patient Unit was formed. Then, more recently, we developed a General Internal Medicine Section, with six faculty members specifically committed to it, and soon we will have a General Internal Medicine Fellowship Program....
