Abstract

Discusses the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI. Reports on the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project which hopes to build the world’s largest radio telescope, with eventually more than a square kilometer (1 million m2) of collecting area. The project has progressed more slowly than originally anticipated, with the roster of member countries fluctuating (the United States is not a member), cost estimates rising, and the project scale being revised. A stated goal of the project is to help solve “one of the greatest mysteries known to humankind…are we alone in the Universe?”."
