Abstract

bipolar I patients: p=0.013). Discussion: Both remitted patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder I in the present study were impaired in the perception of affective prosody as compared with healthy individuals. In contrast, the direct comparison of the two patient groups yielded no significant differences in this regard. Our finding suggests that difficulties in the perception of affective prosody are not restricted to acute episodes of the disorders, but represent a more enduring deficit that might contribute to the interpersonal and occupational problems observed in both patient groups even during interepisode recovery.
