REGULAR READERS will be familiar with our Toxic Childhood series, in which Sue Palmer argues that modern life (convenience food, mod-cons – bells and whistles included) is having a detrimental eff ect on the health and behaviour of young children. It is a great series and it seems that Sue is not alone in thinking that this is not a propitious time to be young. Th e letters page of The Daily Telegraph on September 12 contained a letter from a group of professionals and academics calling for action to be taken to stem the tide of depression among young children, which according to their research is on the rise.
