Tanner, PhD, RN, Editor</b></P> </td></tr></tbody></table> <P>Since 1916, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has been concerned with the meaningful participation of faculty in the governance of academic institutions. Forty years ago, in 1966, the AAUP issued a <cite>Statement on Government of Colleges and Universities</cite>, to delineate the</P> <blockquote>primary responsibility [of faculty] for such fundamental areas as curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction, research, faculty status, and those aspects of student life which relate to the educational process (AAUP, 1966/1990, Section V, ¶1).</blockquote>
