What Ever Happened to Faculty Governance?

Forty years ago, in 1966, the AAUP issued a <cite>Statement on Government of Colleges and Universities</cite>, to delineate the</P> <blockquote>primary responsibility [of faculty] for such fundamental areas as curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction, research, faculty status, and those aspects of student life which relate to the educational process (AAUP, 1966/1990, Section V, ¶1).</blockquote>
