Abstract

A 50-year-old man was evaluated for a 5-month history of blurry vision. He had been diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome many years previously but has not seen his physician in years. He reported no current use of medications. On examination, he had a body mass index of 30.6 and a blood pressure of 160/102 mmHg. A dilated examination of the retina is shown in the Figure.
