Abstract
Background: Despite extensive public awareness heart failure initiatives, patient knowledge about heart failure and information resource utilization is uncertain. Purpose: To review the results of a comprehensive patient survey about patient knowledge, awareness and treatment of heart failure. Methods: We evaluated a 261 patient survey conducted over the internet in 01/04. The patients were recruited via e-mail solicitation from a Chronic Illness Panel managed by Harris Interactive®;. The patient sample was adjusted to approximate the U.S. CHF population. Statistically significant variation in knowledge or awareness was defined by: p<0.05; confidence limit of 95%. Results: Demographics-Gender-M:F 59%/41%; mean age 61; Race-W/other - 92%/8%; NYHA Class- I/II/III/IV - 31%/29%/33%/8%.
