What Could We Learn from Another Civilization?

Abstract

A digital communication system will be capable of conveying many different types of information that can be combined in many ways. What another civilization will be able to say with a system like this will only be limited by their creativity. Because a digital communication system can combine many different types of information, the sender will not be limited to a single medium or mode of communication to get their point across. Instead, they will be able to use the media that are best fit for the goals they are trying to accomplish. They will also be able to combine media that require different levels of skill and intellectual capacity to comprehend and will be able to design messages that can be at least partially understood by a wide audience, hopefully including newcomers like us.
