Abstract

Environment of care practices for preventing healthcare-associated infections are recognized as essential components of an effective infection prevention and control program and promote patient safety. Recent literature reveals evidence that many infectious agents can be acquired through contamination of environmental surfaces and equipment located near the patient. Effective environmental hygiene is an integral part in the coordinated approach to prevent transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms. Reliable cleaning practices require staff education.
