Abstract
This article situates Josiah Royce’s unpublished Pittsburgh Lectures on loyalty by presenting definitive evidence of the time and place of their occurrence. The article then interprets these lectures in light of their context and placement within Royce’s oeuvre. This analysis demonstrates the indispensability of the Pittsburgh Lectures in forming a complete and coherent picture of the development of Royce’s philosophy of loyalty.
