Abstract
Purpose: The Golden Jubilee National Hospital is a major European centre for orthopaedics; responsible for 22% of all Scottish primary hip and knee arthroplasty procedures. Additionally, the hospital provides a service for patients requiring complex revision surgery. This can lead to extended admission periods. With single rooms, no communal area and patients often being a distance from friends and family, there was an identified need to improve patients’ mood and engagement in meaningful interactions out with that related to their admission.
