Abstract

It is well known that certain finite temperature instantons, or calorons, can be viewed as bound states of several monopole constituents. This suggests that, in general, periodic instantons can be constructed out of ‘elementary’ constituents. It is argued that recent studies of doubly periodic instantons lend further support to this supposition.
