Abstract

A nationally representative population survey undertaken to investigate genital HPV knowledge, attitudes, practice experiences including partner notification among nursing and medical staff recruited across seven clinical specialties routinely involved in the provision of PAP testing to adolescent and adult women in primary and secondary care settings in America. The highest response rate was from nurse practitioners (96 per cent). Key objectives included identification of the extent of HPV DNA testing used either as part of management of abnormal or borderline PAP results or as an adjunct PAP testing and whether discussion of HPV and HPV-related changes was an aspect of counselling that presented particular difficulties or problems.
