Abstract

This paper presents an introduction to intellectual property law for scientists and engineers, focused on patents. Patents are both a form of property and a form of knowledge dissemination. To understand the particularities of the patent law patents are compared to more common forms of property and knowledge dissemination. Similarities and differences are highlighted for didactic purposes.
