Abstract

A 20 year old haemodynamically stable woman was admitted with an acute abdomen and absent pedal pulses after a road traffic accident in which she was a restrained backseat passenger. (A) Computed tomography revealed a pneumoperitoneum, near occlusive aortic thrombus proximal to the bifurcation (arrow), and an occluded left popliteal artery. (B) Laparotomy with bowel resection, a defunctioning ileostomy, and aortic repair were performed simultaneously. The aortic injury was repaired using an interposition Dacron graft (Uni-Graft K DV, 10 mm) which was covered with aortic wall after removing aortic thrombus (asterisk). A popliteal embolectomy was performed after aortic repair. Prophylactic antibiotics were given intra-operatively.Image 1
