Abstract
This paper investigates the optimization of the flexible flow shop scheduling problem with setup times. In this paper, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is used as the global optimization algorithm. At the same time, the local scheduling rule is combined with the global optimization algorithm to solve the flexible flow shop scheduling with setup times. Firstly, the flexible flow shop scheduling problem model with setup times is constructed. Setup times in this model are caused by the attributes of jobs, which are processed in the same workstation. Secondly, the local scheduling rule is consisted of First in First out, Shortest Setup Times and First Available Machine, which is established to control the scheduling process of local workstation selection and job assignment. At last, through the standard example tests, WOA is compared with the differential evolution algorithm and is proved to be effective in solving the flexible flow shop scheduling problem.
