Abstract

The past several ICMEs have found it appropriate to devote part of the formal structure of the congress to technology, so that the inclusion of WGA 11 at ICME 9 was a continuation of a strong recent trend, evident in many countries. In the past decade, computers have become increasingly accessible to schools and pupils at home, sophisticated calculators have assumed very great importance in many countries and the Internet has changed from being an academic activity linking a few universities to having key significance in an increasingly wired world. In such circumstances, the subtitles of this working group are especially relevant, highlighting these three key aspects of work in mathematics education. This working group attracted close to 300 participants, from more than 30 countries, suggesting that the questions and issues associated with technology in mathematics education continue to be prominent ones internationally.
