Abstract

Serveral organic liquids were used for wetting the surface of quartz, quartzite and marble. The samples were then floated in doubly-distilled water in a Hallimond's tube. The work of wetting (spreading, immersion, and adhesion) was calculated, using known values of the components of the surface free energy of the tested liquids and minerals. A linear relationship was found between flotability and the apparent values of the actual work of wetting for quartzite and marble
