Abstract

We evaluate the structure taken by a liquid mixture inside a quenched disordered matrix of high porosity by a liquid-state formalism that encompasses the effects of confinement, wetting, and randomness. For appropriate values of the system parameters and when we allow specific adsorption of one of the liquid components by the matrix, we find large fluctuations of composition as in the approach to a bulk demixing transition. The behaviour of the free energy suggests a phase transition which altogether combines wetting and demixing.
