Abstract

The conditions for complete wettability of a dry or wet vertical surface and film rupture have been studied. The minimum wetting rates and the critical rate for film breakdown have been determined under various operational conditions, including liquid properties and temperature levels. Tap water and calcium chloride solutions of various concentration levels were applied. It has been found that with increasing calcium chloride concentration the minimum wetting rates decrease. The effect of temperature is to decrease the minimum wetting rate on dry surfaces, whereas the mean wetting rate and the critical rate for film rupture remain practically unchanged. The results are compared and discussed with reference to previous studies.
