Abstract

Abstract Westline is a 450 km long, near-normal incidence, deep seismic reflection profile crossing the Rockall Trough. The profile was shot perpendicular to the edges of the trough in order to image its conjugate margins. An interpretation of the brute stack of the normal incidence data, partly constrained by existing near-normal incidence and wide angle-data, reveals that the trough is asymmetric, with a broad faulted margin on its western edge and a steep faulted margin where it meets the Irish Shelf. A sill complex extends the whole width of the trough within the 5 km thick sedimentary infill.
