Abstract

This paper contains a brief survey of the Western Concept of Jurisprudence called the science of law or the philosophy of law and shown its link with Roman Law and the scientific manner of approach to the subject by the English writers, jurists and men of high acumen in law. The study is useful for many reasons, one reason being the world having become a global village and understanding between the people of the world of their mutual knowledge and experience. Similarities and dissimilarities in approaching the same subject matter is not only interesting but also increasing and broadening the mental horizon. Many misunderstandings and fallacies will thus stand resolved and world will move to the direction of human welfare and dignity. Law has its role in all walks of life and only this quality of it is sufficient to pay more attention of its science and philosophy and even the skill and art to protect the rights without causing injury or hurt to the rights of others. Jurisprudence is a subject to be read in all parts of the world and its usefulness is much more than any other subject. If rule of law is the soul of civilization the science of law and its philosophy needs much attention of the people of the world at large. The paper is for LL.M. students to work more and more on it and add or omit according as to their own respective researches anywhere in the world. There is a standard of every research and that standard must be kept in view and fully observed. Help may be taken from the standard authorities on the subject with full references and internet facility should also be fully availed. Quotations and references should be complete in all respects.
