Abstract

It is shown that the existence of West's $\ensuremath{\beta}$ correction in the conventional approach to the Fermi-motion effects on deuterium targets is due to the use of the spectator approximation in deriving the normalization condition for the deuteron vertex. It is absent, however, in the nucleon-parton approach which uses the Brodsky parametrization method.
