Abstract

This book consists of a collection of papers by various authors on aspects of the data collected during the 1980-1982 census round in Europe excluding Eastern Europe. Its primary purpose is attempt an international comparative analysis of trends in Western Europe in order to identify the macro-economic and demographic forces moulding the shape and distribution of Europes population. The book is a product of a workshop held at the University of Sheffield in March 1985. It consists of four general papers on topics such as household trends counter-urbanization and international migration; case studies on Denmark Ireland France the Federal Republic of Germany Italy Portugal and the United Kingdom; and a paper on future change in European populations.
