Abstract

Abstract The ‘clathratogenic’ ability of coordination complexes of the general formula M(Il)XzA4 was first reported by Schaeffer and coworkers [WD. Schaeffer et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc., 79(1957), 5870). During 1950-1970 the main reason for studying the subject was the possibility of practical use of clathration selectivity in separation of mixtures which are otherwise separable with difficulty, i.e. mixtures of isomeric compounds. Thus, the early literature contains extensive information on selectivity of clathration of a variety of mixtures of organic compounds (guests) by different Werner complexes (host) {Tobie 1}.
