Abstract

The fatigue strength of induction hardened parts with crack initiation in the hardened surface is determined by the intrinsic material properties after rapid austenitization and the effect of residual stresses in the hardened surface. The presented results, gained of induction hardened specimens made of 100Cr6, 42CrMo4, 44MnSiVS6 and Ck 45 reveal the significant dependence of intrinsic material properties on the thermal boundary conditions of a rapid austenitization process.
