Abstract

We study the generalized Benjamin–Ono equation ∂ tu+ H∂ 2 xu+u k∂ xu=0 , k⩾2. In the context of small initial data we prove local and global well-posedness results in Sobolev and in Besov spaces. Our results turn out to be almost sharp for k≠3.
