Abstract

AbstractThe oil industry uses Portland cement in their wells, which is manufactured predominantly in accordance with American Petroleum Institute classifications. Also, cements following standards applied in civil/construction engineering are used, which gain importance recently. A field case is reviewed where a cement plug job was performed across the Zechstein formation of a well in a Rotliegend Group and chemical interactions between the cement slurry and a geological formation could be observed. Furthermore, examples for methods to characterize the porosity of the dry cement powder are referenced.
