Abstract
Welfare abuse is a complex and multidimensional problem. In this article, the subject of interest is the abuse committed by individuals of take-up welfare benefits. The theoretical part presents the author's concept of the term "welfare abuse"; with discussion of the essence and categories of this problem. Then, in the empirical part, we present the results of the survey study. On this basis, we evaluate the level of tolerance for particular abuses, and also calculate a synthetic indicator showing the general level of social acceptance for the abuse of welfare benefits in Poland.
