Abstract

The forest products industry forms an important cornerstone of the Canadian economy. The industry is deeply committed to integrated management and has made strides in that direction in recent years, particularly with the endorsement of the document entitled, "Guiding Principles for Forest Land Management in Canada." Logging has replaced fire as the main agent for forest renewal, and the industry now plans at the landscape scale. Several examples of individual species management are provided including marten, mule deer, grizzly bear and pileated woodpecker.
